Engine Check in 300 Miles: Taking Time for Your Strategy

So often, business leaders become entrenched and focused on the day-to-day responsibilities of running the organization… and the vision, goals and strategic direction of the business can get put on a back burner.

Is it time for a pause… for an ‘engine check’?

Take time to review your strategic plan – and your business plan – to make sure you’re aligned with both as you continue your efforts to build your business.   Remember – both plans are essential to your success and that of your business.

“All men can see these tactics whereby I conquer, but what none can see is the strategy out of which victory is evolved.” –  Sun Tzu

Take a look at your strategy and it’s overarching, comprehensive vision for your business – dust off those  dreams, shake them up and bring them back to life.

Are your vision, mission, values, principals and goals still in alignment?  Do they make sense TODAY and as drivers of your on-going success?  Are you energized and excited by your strategy?

You should be – and if you are not – take another look at your big picture – where are you going and how are you going to get there?

“Change is not a destination, just as hope is not a strategy.” –  Rudy Giuliani

Work with your teams and leaders to be sure they are breaking down the vision into time-framed activities to take the staff closer to the mission.

GENUINE LEADERSHIP

Genuine leadership is defined by heart, integrity, honesty, courage, compassion and those many intangible qualities of being and creating the most authentic person and leader that resides within each one of us. It takes time, awareness, knowledge and purpose to build our inner leadership and leadership in others. And, it takes grit. It requires a willingness to be vulnerable and show our true selves to the world; strength to speak our mind clearly and with confidence; empathy and compassion for ourselves and others while staying strong and determined; and the focus, faith and belief to do what we know is right even when it is the most difficult thing to do. Its a fascinating journey and one I have traveled for decades. The further I go, the more I realize how much I still need to learn and experience. It seems like just when I reach a new level of self-awareness, something comes into my life that reminds me I still have much to learn and many more levels to ascend. Exciting? Yes.
